Alzheimer Scotland Football Reminiscence Project
Alzheimer Scotland Football Reminiscence Project
This project was originally set up by the Scottish Football Museum in 2009 as a year long pilot, and was launched at Hampden Park by Hibernian FC and Scotland legend Lawrie Reilly in June of that year. Such was the success of the scheme that in 2010 Alzheimer Scotland agreed to take on the running of the project with the museum retaining an active role as a senior partner.
The reminiscence project aims to provide reminiscence therapy for people with dementia using football related content to act as memory triggers. Images from the collections of the museum and participating football clubs, varying from programmes, match tickets, action shots and team line ups, are used and can be personalised to suit the interests of individual participants or small groups. Alzheimer Scotland are actively recruiting volunteers who will receive training and will then be able to participate in the project by delivering reminiscence sessions on a one to one and small group basis.
