Since 2001, when its doors first opened at Hampden Park, the Scottish Football Museum has continued to grow and develop as a leading visitor attraction. As the museum celebrates its 10th year at the national stadium there have been some important milestones along the way.

In 2005 the Scottish Football Museum became the first museum in Glasgow to receive the prestigious Five Star accolade from Visit Scotland. This places the Scottish Football Museum in the top 3% of all visitor attractions in Scotland.

In 2008 the museum was formally accredited by Museums Libraries Archives (MLA) as a non government funded national museum. In 2009 the collections of the museum were officially recognised as being nationally significant in the Scottish Government funded Recognition Scheme.
