Sheila Begbie

Sheila began playing organised football in her home city of Edinburgh and aged just 15 made her first appearance for Scotland against England. In 25 appearances for Scotland, Sheila’s most memorable game arguably came in 1977 when she captained her country to a 2-1 win against England in Dundee, lifting the Eric Worthington Cup. Another memorable occasion was the tour to Italy with the Scotland Women’s National Team in 1974.

As an administrator, Begbie had an inspirational role in transforming women’s football in Scotland; initially in her role as Girls’ and Women’s Football Co-ordinator with TeamSport Scotland and latterly as Head of Girls’ and Women’s Football at the Scottish FA. Begbie helped to create the Scottish FA Women’s National Performance Centre at the University of Stirling and she also held a position as head of UEFA’s Women’s Committee.
